Look isn’t everything!!

People always have the misconception that having a pretty or handsome face is the fast track or a passport to everything… I am making this statement not because I think I am pretty or whatsoever, but because someone mentioned my big name on his blog.

I cite:
Im happy with the idea of being able to use my own laptop until i read ada's blog, wa laio her company issued laptop to them, good laptops and can even bring home -_-", and she's so free... My boss gives me so much work, i guess thts the difference in treatment between male and female IA student, but i think the really reason tht she's not getting tough work is due to her looks, IA superviors treat pretty female students better, my supervior told me de haha... i hope ada's not reading my blog or she will be furious now and im in trouble lol....


This is the third time someone is telling me that I will have a great time for IA because my supervisor will be lenient towards me, due to look!! If you think I am pretty, then thank you. But do you also mean beautiful people have no brain??

For a fact, I wouldn’t deny that having good look is a plus point especially in this realistic world, but I can assure you that it might put that person in a difficult position. There are always two sides to a coin. I guess everyone knows the benefit of looking good. So let me mention some disadvantages.

Let me think……

Scenario 1:
You are an intern (a super drop-dead-gorgeous-hot-lusty babe) and your supervisor happened to be an ugly old spinster, do you think you will have a great time for IA??
Or when you’re a hunk (the ohh-so-handsome-young-chap with sizzling eyes and killer smile), and your male boss happened to have a horrifying face, do you think you will have a great time for IA??

Well, I am not implying that all unattractive people are horrible people. But to a certain extend, they might be jealous of your beauty, and make things difficult for you, especially so when you are just an intern. The fact that you cannot quit and your grades depend on your boss simply ties you down. Don’t you agree??

Scenario 2:
You are again an attractive intern. You realized that your boss is always not giving you any work, and it turned out that he/she is interested in you!! Are you going to pacify your boss?? Just a gentle reminder – you grades depend on your boss!!!

Again, I am not implying that all bosses are like that, just a handful perhaps. But I had cracked my skull to picked two possible scenarios that might happen to attractive interns. They are my personal opinions, and I am NOT experiencing any of that!!!

Some people might also feel that attractive interns can easily get good grades, because their look appeals to their boss. Let me tell you – if your boss judges a person’s capability in accordance to their look only, then he is in no position to judge at all!! If he does, then I think you’re in the wrong company!!!

So, if you are more of the average looking ones, freak not!!! There are two arts that you might want to pick up so as to turn the situation in favor for you.

The Art of Bootlicking

Many held the belief that bootlicking is self-humiliation. But try looking from another angle and view it as a social skill. Do suck up to your boss once a while, but try not to make it a habit because having your boss like you won’t always guarantee a smooth career path.

The Art of Befriending

Like what the art is all about, it is about making friends at work, preferably those with some weight in the company. This is one survival skill that is important. The society is not so perfect after all!! People might be full of praise in front of you, but wouldn’t they backstab you?? So, if you can’t make him your enemy, make him your friend!! As simple as that….


Whatever it is, we have to adapt to the society. The world won’t stop spinning just because you said it is unfair. Your look wouldn’t change just because you think you are ugly, when no one else said so.

The only solution is to align ourselves to best fit into the society and most importantly, protect ourselves no matter how tough the environment is. We may be just interns now, we may be doing all those shit to earn our grades, we may be disgustingly underpaid but that wouldn’t be long…

Lastly, no one can stay attractive forever. Like good look, the most beautiful rose will still wilt and die.
