My life had been so interesting and filled with excitement that I forgot I had a blog. To start things off, my sore throat is killing me, and that’s due to the 4 hours KTV session with 2 other friends yesterday. It was peculiar to sing with not-very-close-friends, and the fact that we weren’t afraid to disgrace ourselves in front of each other was more than weird. I am a horrible singer and my voice might just deafen anyone. Since I cannot talk, I shall write.
Hmm… Let me write about my short getaway to Kuala Lumpur…
I spent my time in KL over the last weekend to slim down my fat wallet. It was a pleasant trip, and I really enjoyed myself. Along the way, I learnt the Malay language and personally, I think it wasn’t really that tough.
While shopping around KL, I notice that the Malay language is spelled the way where the word is to be pronounced. There were only slight alterations from the English spelling, and for certain words, the pronunciation is sufficient for me to understand the content.
For instance, Candy Corner is spelled as Kandy Korner and Caramel is spelled as Karamel. There are many other words that begin with a “C” for English but “K” for Malay. I stopped to wonder if Calvin is from Singapore and Kelvin is from Malaysia.
Another interesting word I saw was from a petrol kiosk while walking towards the bus interchange. On the road stand, it read “24 Jam”. Coincidently, there was a horrible jam on the opposite road. It was as though the petrol kiosk had predicted a 24 hours traffic jam along the road.
In KL, the shops always had on their signboard stating the items they sell. Shoe shops had Kedai Kasut and Bag shops would have Kedai Beg on the top left hand corner of the signboard. I am always excited when I see Kedai Kasut; their shoes are so pretty and cheap that I bought 4 pairs home!! Converting back to SGD, the 4 pairs cost around 45SGD. So cheap!!! How I wish my mum would have given me 3 more pairs of legs to wear them all at one go.
We stayed at The Federal, located at Bukit Bintang, supposedly mean Star Hill. It was a 3 star hotel, clean and decent on the outside. But in my room, there was a whole contingent of cockroaches marching across the floor. I dare not even take a peak under the bed, because I could already imagine many more baby cockroaches partying below.
There was an A&W outlet in KL!!! I had initially thought that it had been completely wipe out from the universe, until I spotted one in KL. How would I miss the chance of savoring the traditional root beer float, curly fried and waffles?? To my disappointment, their waffle was a complete disaster, while the fries and root beer float were merely passable. No wonder they close down in Singapore.
At the end of my trip, my wallet had lost so much weight; it is so skinny I need to put it under the intensive care unit once again.
