We all wear a mask. In front of our family, our friends. You are a liar if you say you don’t wear a mask. Friend would often tell you that you behave differently in different situations and circumstances. That is indeed – a mask.
Sometimes, we have so many masks that we will eventually forget our true self. We find it difficult to differentiate from reality, ambiguity and our illusions. The mask is like our shadow, sticking and stalking us all the time. We will never get rid of that shadow, unless we are in a dark room. A dark room is just like being alone, isolated from the rest of world, and that is the time we take down our mask to see ourselves. But, we can’t see in a dark room, so we never see our true identity.
Ever said you hated hypocrites? We are all hypocrites. All of us. Who isn’t?? Remember, we are masked!!
Frankly speaking, I don’t give a damn to people who wallow in self-pity. In my opinion, they are just attracting attention. I mean, initially I will console them and ask if they are ok. But if they persist on and on, it gets irritating.
I remembered from my psychology class that this type of people are classify as the behaviorists under the operant conditioning. This class of people gets attention and sympathy to excuse themselves from normal responsibilities. The gains that these people get will reinforce irrational and sometimes self-destructive behaviors. (Quoted from my brain) For instance, when a person feels down, people around her asked about how she is feeling and give attention to her. She loves having the attention and takes it as a reward of feeling down. She had therefore learnt that by feeling down, she gets attention. Therefore, to get attention, she is always feeling down. Get it? (read aloud if you don’t get this)
These people are putting on a fake front to attract attention. So now, do you understand why I will ignore people who are ALWAYS feeling down and moody? They are just wearing a mask…. Honestly, I am also wearing a mask, by befriending these people.
But of course, not all friends are like that. You will know who are the ones taking advantage and who are the ones that are really feeling down. Like the classic Chinese story – “Here comes the wolf” (lang2 lai2 le4), no one will believe you if you lie too much.
If you read this and it somehow symbolizes you, then you should be laughing at your own stupidity. I don’t want to point finger at anyone.
Pardon me for being quite harsh with my words in this entry because I wrote it out of anger. I happened to read someone’s blog that annoys me to the max. From her blog, I felt that she is always thinking of fitting her friends in her shoe rather than fitting herself in her friends’ shoes. I was pondering. If she feels that she could not fit into her group of friends, then it is a really serious problem. She has to ask herself whether she is in the right clique. Friends are not the ones walking in front or behind you. They are the ones walking right beside you!! =)
School stress.... Help!!!!
