Wormy wormy

I recalled a conversation with my mum and brother a few days back, regarding intestinal worms. According to my mum, she overheard a customer’s conversation with the butcher. That customer bought pig intestine and found some worms inside. She described the worms as brown, thick as my pinkie and about 10 cm in length. What a horror story!!

I have heard about pouring coke over pork and maggots started crawling out, but that is due to flies laying eggs on the pork after the pig got killed. If the pigs were killed in a hygienic environment, the chance of flies laying eggs on the pork is minimized. Not just pork, any red meat will be a good breeding place for the eggs anyway, so I am not too concern about that.

But how did those big fats worms made their way into the intestine??? Hmmm…

Since I have no work, no dates and so much time, I did a mini research about intestinal worms.

From my research, intestinal worms are parasites that exist in most animals, pets and even human. There are 3 main types, the roundworm, whipworm and hookworm. The symptoms of infection are similar; including a distended abdomen and severe underweight caused by malnutrition. It reminds me of the African kids…..and Priscilla, whose thigh is as big as my arm.

As parasites, they attached themselves at the beginning of the small intestine and survive on the food the stomach had digested. When we eat, we are feeding the worms. If we are on hunger strike, they feed on our blood. Thus, it makes no difference whether we eat or not, because they never go on a diet.

If there are too many worms in us, the food we eat might be absorbed mostly by them and causes us to suffer from malnutrition. If you are eating endlessly but never get fat, you are most probably living with some worms and they usually live till the day you die.

My mum said a worm crawl out from my brother’s ass when he was a toddler, and I remembered Pris said she shitted a worm when she was young. Yucks… So gross…
