Friends Forever??

After hearing some of stories of how friends turned foe and turn their back at each other recently, I wonder if the statement – friends forever, is still valid today. Such a simple statement had been taken for granted when we write it on birthday cards and autograph books of even very random friends. But do we really mean friends forever??

From the beginning of time, I have learnt that making friends is such a chore!! We have to learn to live with their flaws and worst still, pretend that we like them when we hate them, deep down. I remembered an incident in primary 2 when that bitch allied with the rest of the girls in class and they don’t-want-to-friend-me, for no reason!! But of course, I have my way of winning some friends back to my side, and she was obviously jealous of it.

On my birthday, that bitch drew me a card, and wrote “Friends Forever” in it!! That creature is so disgusting and fake like plasticine. I may be young back then, but I am definitely not gullible. Ok right, we did become friends, but I was reminded of other unpleasant things that had happened later on and we were no longer friends. So much for being friends forever….

Then again, what is Friends Forever?? Such a simple statement made complicated. No, nothing is forever. Friends come and go, it is a viscous cycle. Unfortunate indeed…

Sometimes, I wish our path had never crossed. I regretted making friends with some, when it turned out that the price I had paid is not worth the ride. I had been backstabbed, bitched about, made use of etc etc…you name it. Bad memories had haunted me.

Eventually, I learn to cope with the fact that I can never get over bad memories; I only learn to live with it. No matter how great those friends once were, I only remember how they had turned their back on me when I had once trusted them…the feeling is suffocating and the betrayal runs deeper.

As time goes by, I realized that there is nothing more dreadful than holding on to a broken friendship. The tears I had cried and tried to dry, the ways I had attempted to ease the pain. It isn’t worth it in the end.

“Friends change. We won’t have to change friends if we understand that friends change.” said GL, my colleague from IA. How true.
